Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week - Signs and Symptoms of EAB

Do you know what EAB signs to look for?

1. Emerald Ash Borer adults

- bright, metallic green
- 1/2 inch long with flattened back
- purple abdominal segments under wing covers

2. Larva

- creamy, white legless
- flattened, bell shaped body segments
- terminal segments has a small pair of appendages

3. Serpentine galleries

- larval feeding galleries typically weave back and forth, creating a serpentine appearance

4. D-Shaped exit holes

- adults form D-shaped holes when emerging

5. Canopy dieback

- Begins at top one-third of the canopy
- Progresses until the tree is bare

6. Epicormic shoots

- Sprouts grow from roots and trunk
